BGM Acquires Chipman Firm

Minneapolis-based accounting firm BGM, ranked among the top 200 by INSIDE Public Accounting, has announced a significant expansion with the merger of John T. Chipman & Co., an established accounting and advisory firm based in Norwood, MA. The financial details of this strategic deal have not been made public. Post-merger, John T. Chipman & Co. (JTC) will begin operating under the well-known BGM brand, with partners David Support and Lisa Gray, along with the entire JTC team, joining BGM. They will continue to serve clients from the familiar Norwood office, ensuring minimal disruption for JTC’s client base.

BGM’s Northeast Expansion: A New Chapter

This acquisition marks BGM’s first M&A deal in 2026, following a strategic addition in late 2025 when they welcomed The Vroman Group in West Des Moines, Iowa. By merging with John T. Chipman & Co., BGM is not only expanding its geographical footprint but also strengthening its operational capabilities, enabling it to better serve clients throughout New England and the Northeast region.

“The addition of JTC is more than just a mergers and acquisitions deal; it’s a significant step in BGM’s growth journey,” said Dane Boeckermann, principal and CEO of BGM. “JTC brings a strong reputation for technical excellence and a client-centric approach that aligns perfectly with BGM’s culture and commitment to personalized service. This combination will allow us to deliver deeper expertise and broader resources to our clients while maintaining the high-quality service they’ve come to expect from both firms.”

The Legacy and Benefits of JTC: A Closer Look

Founded over three and a half decades ago, JTC has built a strong reputation serving a diverse range of clients, including small businesses, individuals, and closely held companies. Its expertise spans various industries such as manufacturing, distribution, construction, real estate, medicine, law, and retail. JTC’s full service portfolio includes accounting, tax, consulting, and advisory services, making it an excellent fit for BGM.

Reflecting on the merger, David Support, a partner at JTC, expressed his enthusiasm, “This combination is more than just an opportunity for our firm; it’s an opportunity for our clients. Joining BGM provides access to expanded resources, specialized expertise, and a broader network of professionals. We’re excited about the new opportunities this creates for both our clients and our team, all while preserving the trusted relationships and personalized service our clients value. We look forward to continuing to serve them from our Norwood office as part of the BGM team.”

Joe Tarasco, CEO of Accountants Advisory Group, played a key role in advising both parties throughout the transaction process. BGM, founded in 1982, offers a full suite of services, including accounting, tax, audit, business advisory, wealth management, and trust and estate services. With this merger, BGM continues its mission to serve entrepreneurial businesses and individuals across the United States, further solidifying its position as a leading accounting firm.
